Biden and/or members of his administration were by far most likely to be cited, appearing in 82% of all stories studied including 70% of stories in outlets with right-leaning audiences. Still, a sizable share (43%) said the November election was the first time they had cast an absentee or mail ballot. Voters who were unaffiliated with any religious tradition (atheists, agnostics and those who describe themselves as nothing in particular) made up 35% of Biden voters but just 14% of Trump voters in 2020. The Center has also conducted similar analyses for the early months of the four prior administrations: those of Donald Trump, Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton. In all, about three-quarters (78%) of their stories offered a negative assessment of the administration and its actions, with only 4% offering a positive assessment.
